Defending Democracy Initiative
The curriculum for the Defending Democracy Initiative is tailored for those officers, deputies, state troopers and those in the private security sector providing close protection to public officials, candidates for office, corporate executives and others designated as “at risk”.
The ISA Dignitary and Executive Protection Training Program was originally designed for law enforcement personnel assigned to provide close / executive protection to public officials after the 2011 attempted assassination attempt of U.S. Representative Gabrielle Gilford’s.
The syllabus was updated after the June 2017 assassination attempt of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise the third-ranking Republican in the House and three others outside Washington DC.
After the events of January 6th 2021, the Task Force 1-6 (Capitol Security Review), recommended improvements for the security of federal elected officials, Unfortunately it seems each of those recommendations have fallen on deaf ears because many Members of Congress still lack security when they return to their districts. A government study has also found many state and local public officials still lack the security measures required to address today’s threats.
Private Sector
** Note** the course designers also took the advice of hiring managers and corporate executive protection teams to ensure our private sector students receive the education, training and have the skills in demand by the private and corporate sector. This is why many corporate and private EP details seek ISA graduates.
The Syllabus
The ISA Dignitary & Executive Protection Specialist Program course designers placed a strong emphasis on the threat assessment and risk mitigation planning process, and on stressing the basic methodology of “protection in-depth”, so this curriculum will cover the operational procedures, methods, hard & soft skills, and tactics used by successful law enforcement protective service agencies and the military.
All exercises whether in the classroom or the field, and during the final live capstone are going to be real-world scenarios based on events such as the June 26th, 2018 breach of security of Senator McConnell and Transportation Secretary Chao, and the earlier shooting of House GOP Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana, as well as scenarios more in line with a CEO and his / her family.
Students at the completion of this training course will fully understand the critical daily operational requirements and procedures to provide close protection services in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and threat levels. #execu
