The ISA Executive Protection Academy and Center for Security and Anti Terrorism Training provide close protection training to both the public and private sectors.
Executive Protection Training
June 2025
This executive protection training course is part of one of the most thoroughly vetted and accredited private sector EP training programs.
Working with our partners and program sponsors, we will provide accredited executive protection training to students who conduct or support dignitary/executive protective service operations for public safety and the private security sector.
The ISA Dignitary and Executive Protection Training Program was initially intended for law enforcement personnel assigned to provide close/executive protection to public officials after the 2011 attempted assassination of U.S. Representative Gabrielle Gifford. However, hiring managers and corporate executive protection teams requested updates to ensure our private sector students receive the education, training, and skills to mitigate threats like the December 2024 assassination of UnitedHealth executive Brian Thompson. This is why many corporate and private EP details seek ISA graduates.
** Graduates meet the Virginia DCJS PPS Credentials and North Carolina EP license requirements, and may receive 12 CEUs by the NCPPSB.
The ISA Dignitary and Executive Protection Program has been submitted for third-party audit and validation to law enforcement agencies, private sector EP programs, and educational institutions for state accreditation.
Course Objective Summary: The ISA course designers strongly focus on exceeding state requirements and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center training standards and addressing the training needs of different agencies, as mentioned in the General Accounting Office report GAO/GGD/OSI-00-139, titled Security Protection: Standardization Issues Regarding Protection of Executive Branch Officials, dated 07/11/2000.
The Syllabus: In 2011, our course instructors used the instructional systems development (ISD) process to develop our executive and close protection training program and curriculum. Initially developed for the U.S. Army by Florida State University’s Center for Educational Technology, this process took almost a year to complete.
To build the foundation for this course, we interviewed military, law enforcement, private sector, and corporate close protection subject matter experts. We determined the training objectives and course topics by speaking with hiring managers and corporate executive protection teams, reviewing state licensing requirements, current law enforcement and accredited EP training programs, and the General Accounting Office report GAO/GGD/OSI-00-139, dated 07/11/2000, titled Security Protection: Standardization Issues Regarding Protection of Executive Branch Officials.
Job Postings
So based on this process and from looking at the responsibilities listed in job postings we determined students will be introduced to; intelligence-driven risk assessments, threat monitoring, and risk mitigation security measures; Coordination of activities with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and maintaining active communications with executive staff; threat investigations; defensive tactics; first aid/CPR; site security evaluations; security technology; planning and coordination of travel; security vulnerability assessments; planning of significant events involving the executives. Other topics include drones in EP operations, ethics, state-required de-escalation, and legal or regulatory classes.
During live exercises, students will be faced with real-world scenarios based on events such as the June 26th, 2018, breach of security of Senator McConnell and Transportation Secretary Chao, and the shooting of UnitedHealth executive Brian Thompson.
Graduates can prepare a threat assessment, complete the pre-mission risk mitigation planning process of advance and site surveys, and successfully demonstrate the proper procedures and skills to transport, escort, and provide a safe and secure environment for a public official or private client.
