Approved and Recognized Executive Protection Training
Employers today require applicants to have completed training from a recognized, approved, or accredited executive protection program. ISA/EPTraining.us meets that training requirement.
The ISA Dignitary & Executive Protection Specialist Program is approved in both Virginia and North Carolina for executive-protection licensing purposes. In Virginia, the program satisfies the training requirements for the 32E Personal Protection Specialist license. In North Carolina, it is approved for Close Personal Protection licensing.
The program has also been accredited, accepted, or recognized for law-enforcement in-service training in multiple states and for civilian adult-education credit.
ISA has trained personnel from federal, state, and local law-enforcement agencies as well as private-sector protective professionals. Agency and company executive-protection leaders have selected ISA/EPTraining.us to train personnel assigned to protective duties.
Program at a Glance
Course: Dignitary & Executive Protection Specialist Course
Length: Seven days
Training Hours: Up to 84 hours
Format: Classroom instruction, facilitated discussion, practical exercises, field application, medical training, written evaluation, and live capstone protective operation
Students should expect extended training days, practical assignments, field exercises, team responsibilities, and changing mission conditions throughout the week.
Who Should Attend
The program is designed for personnel currently performing, supporting, or preparing for protective assignments.
This includes law-enforcement and other public-safety personnel; active-duty, Reserve, and National Guard military personnel; veterans transitioning into civilian protective work; licensed or otherwise qualified private-sector protective personnel; and investigators or private detectives whose professional duties include personal protection.
Students may be preparing for assignments involving public officials, judges, visiting dignitaries, candidates, corporate executives, high-net-worth individuals and families, public figures, or other persons requiring professional protective services.
For Law-Enforcement and Public-Safety Agencies
Some states and law-enforcement training systems maintain their own dignitary or VIP-protection programs. Those programs may be appropriate when they meet the agency’s needs and are available when the officer requires training.
ISA provides another option for agencies seeking a broader seven-day protective-services program, particularly when officers may be expected to help plan, establish, and operate a protective detail rather than simply augment an existing team.
The program is especially useful for agencies that do not maintain a permanent executive-protection unit but may still be required to protect an elected official, judge, candidate, visiting dignitary, or other at-risk person.
ISA’s executive-protection program was originally developed for law-enforcement personnel facing exactly that type of assignment.
What Students Train To Do
Students are introduced to the procedures, methods, and hard and soft skills protective agents use every day in operational assignments. Training includes the threat-assessment and protective-intelligence process, mission and emergency planning, advance work, site assessments and physical security, transportation and movement, public-event and daily protective operations, hostile-surveillance awareness, legal and ethical responsibilities, and medical response.
The course is designed to immerse students in practical exercises that require them to apply the procedures and skills they have learned. Student performance is evaluated during a live capstone protective operation, where they must demonstrate their ability to perform as part of a protective detail.

Practical Training and Capstone Evaluation
Executive protection cannot be learned through classroom instruction alone.
Throughout the week, students move from instruction and facilitated discussion into planning assignments, practical exercises, field application, team problem-solving, and scenario-based training.
Students should expect conditions to change. Information changes. Schedules change. Routes change. Assignments change. Protective personnel must recognize what has changed, understand how it affects the mission, communicate with the team, and adjust the plan.
The program concludes with a live capstone protective operation requiring students to apply the procedures and skills developed throughout the course.
Students must plan, brief, communicate, coordinate, move, adapt, and perform as part of a protective detail.
Medical Training
Medical response is part of the protective mission.
The program includes:
- CPR
- AED
- Stop the Bleed
- Basic First Aid
Protective personnel may be the closest trained person when the protectee, a family member, employee, guest, or member of the public suffers a medical emergency or traumatic injury. The ability to recognize the emergency, begin immediate care, communicate effectively, and support the transfer of care is an important protective skill.
