This course is designed to meet and exceed the requirements of the Maryland 2013 Firearm’s Safety Act. As Per the 2013 Maryland Firearm Safety Act this four (4) hour Maryland State Qualified, Handgun Instructor-led course will instruct and affirm a Maryland H.Q.L applicant’s safe operation of a firearm and requires a range qualification component. This course includes an overview of the following:

State’s firearm law – Including what constitutes a regulated firearm, how to properly purchase or transfer a firearm, where applicants are permitted to carry and transport a firearm, when it is necessary to possess a wear carry permit, and who is prohibited from possessing firearms.

 Home Firearm Safety – Including an overview of handgun and firearm safety in the home, access to minors, locking and storing firearms, and the proper use of safety devices, including lock boxes and safes.

Handgun Mechanisms and Operation – including proper operation and safe handling of a handgun, including cleaning and maintenance, the loading and unloading of ammunition, and the difference between revolvers and semi-automatic handguns. And will conclude with a live-fire qualification.


Hilden NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting

This NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Instructor-led course is designed to teach the basic knowledge, skill, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. You expect both classroom and range time, learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. You will learn NRA’S rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules shooting from the bench rest position and two-handed position; cleaning the pistol’ and continued opportunities for skill development. To earn a certificate, you should be able to consistently shoot five-shot groups within a four-inch circle from 10-15 feet prior to earning a certificate.


Maryland Wear Carry Permit

This Maryland State Qualified Handgun Instructor-led sixteen (16) hour course for initial applicants and eight (8) hour course for renewal is designed to meet and exceed the 2013 Maryland Firearms Safety Act. This course will cover the following material:

RANGE (LIVE FIRE)

  • Demonstrate Safety Principals
  • Demonstrate Marksmanship Principals
  • Shoot A Qualification Course Of Fire (** MUST attain a score of 70% for certification)

Note: Only students who qualify under Maryland’s Good and Substantial Reason will be able to obtain a permit to carry.


Dennis Atkinson is an ISA Dignitary Protection Specialist and instructor fully accredited by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice, holding the Personal Protection Specialist (PPS) credential, and Maryland Private Investigator Licence.

He also holds certifications from the NRA and additional credentials from Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC. 

A United States Marine Corps veteran with ten years of honorable service, he is also currently completing his business management degree with Prince George’s Community College.  Dennis has served as an agent, security driver, and detail team leader for celebrities, diplomats, and public officials.
