Dateline: [Washington, DC, September 26, 2024] — With the growing threats to local and state public officials and the challenges law enforcement agencies face supporting the US Secret Service in their mission of protecting an increasing number of protectees, the US Presidential Service Badge Foundation announces the appointment of Matthew Parker to the position of Director of Public Safety Training.
With US and international experience, Mr. Parker is uniquely qualified to make an impact today on the foundation’s efforts to improve the safety and security of public officials by providing law enforcement the executive protection education and training programs they need.
Mr. Parker is a graduate of the Federal Law Enforcement and US Army Law Enforcement Training Academy and is a DOD-certified close protection agent and master instructor. A state-certified law enforcement instructor for executive protection programs, Mr. Parker collaborated with the University of Maryland Public Safety Academy and with federal agencies in 2011 to develop executive protection training programs to be attended by state, local, and federal law enforcement and security personnel.
Today these training programs are currently awarded law enforcement accreditation, continuing education credits for private security, and approved for the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice and North Carolina Private Protective Services Board EP license.
++One of the few EP training programs recognized for college credit, it has received the first-ever endorsement of an executive protection training program by the International Foundation of Protection Officers.
In 2022-2023 Mr. Parker was requested by the Ukrainian Security Services to conduct training for close protection agents assigned to government and judicial officials during a time of war. Previously Mr. Parker was requested by H.E. Dr. Barham Ahmed Salih Qassim, the then Deputy Prime Minister, and current President of the Republic of Iraq, and other ministers to serve as a course manager and senior Instructor for a Protective Operations Training Program conducted by Multi-National Forces in Central Iraq for Iraqi security services assigned to senior government officials.
In 2007 he served as as a Special Advisor for Protective Operations for the International Police Task Force in Northern Iraq and was selected as the Security Coordinator for two US Institute of Peace Tribal Reconciliation Conferences and coordinated security arrangements during the opening of the Najaf International Airport
Mr. Parker since his retirement in 2011 after twenty years of service with the US Army, has been the Chief Executive Officer and the Director of Training for Independent Security Advisors LLC.
The appointment of Mr. Parker and the availability of these accredited training programs, especially in light of the July 13th attempted assassination of former President Trump, and the increased level and number of threats across the country to public officials can make an immediate impact on the safety and security of public officials nationwide.
The USPSB Foundation stands ready to lend its expertise in this effort to continue to safeguard a nation in which its members have already pledged their allegiance.
